If you ever have a hard disk problem, this will be your only means of recovery. In reference to a previous review, note that my m8400f *included* a DVI-VGA adapter in the box. will still be necessary before you get a clean bill of health.
The m8400f's 2.2GHz quad-core AMD Phenom CPU is the bomb. I purchased this HP desktop for my son to replace his 3yo home-built that bit the dust.
Vista already had SP1 applied, but the normal hokey pokey of Windows updates (on top of updates on top of updates on top of.). A pair of Seagate 360GB SATA's provide scads of storage space.
3GB of RAM is nice, and the nVidia GeForce 8500 GT graphics are great. Block out another hour or so to remove all the craplets and trial offers.I can't stress strongly enough to take advantage of the prompt to create recovery DVDs.
The integrated VGA port is disabled due to the addition of the nVidia GeForce 8500 GT adapter (HDMI, DVI, and S-Video outputs, but no VGA port).All-in-all, I would positively recommend HP's Pavilion m8400f.
Two 360 gig hard drives. Very fast. This is quite a step up from my previous systems. Fast is the word. No problem performing multiple tasks. Much better than average video card. All-in-all a great system that is fun to use. Highly recommended.GerryO
I do not seem to be able to change the star rating but I'll give it 4 stars. I hope to come back and update to a better review.UPDATE: Bought the cable and so far very happy with the computer.
M8400f with the Nvidia 8500 GT card does not have a VGA connector. It is one of the things that drive consumers crazy.
Horrible first impression. You need a DVI cable or VGA-DVI adapter.
Not a big deal but no warning until you come home and try to assemble. It is as advertised in terms of performance.
Can't imagine being able to beat what I got for the price (found a clearance below anything I had seen)
Extremely happy with my new system. No porblems have surfaced using Vista as of yet.
This is a nice computer but one of the main reasons that I bought it was because it had the audio/video input card in the front of the tower in the fourth picture. I was wrongly mislead when I just got it in the mail there was no such interface, but other than that I don't really have a problem with it. This makes me mad because I bought a new monitor separately in faith that I would be able to use it to hook my 360 to my computer and play on my monitor (I have to still see if that is possible).
